Heavenly Treasure

Working Out Your Salvation

cd
Philippians 3:7-21

New Living Translation (NLT)

I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ.[a] For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. 10 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, 11 so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!

Pressing toward the Goal

12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it,[b] but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

15 Let all who are spiritually Mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. 16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.

17 Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example. 18 For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth. 20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. 21 He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Chapter 4

(Phil 2:12 NKJV)

12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed,

not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence,

 work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

We must take a serious look at where we are now

in our walk with Christ and how we got to our present condition.

The following section will give us some very important insight

to help us each evaluate our current condition in our walk with Christ.

The lifestyle sought after in the US is

entirely Materialistic and many US Christians

are very much caught up it this lifestyle.

The lifestyle that is sought after in the United States

is centered around being financially free.

Financial Freedom, according to the society we live in,

is being able to have what we want,

do want we want,

and go anywhere we want,

 any time we want.

It is all based on personal wants

and the big number one, I.

Look at who I am.

Look at what I have done.

Look at what it has gotten me(I).

Look at where I am going now.

Always about big number one I, and never satisfied.

(Luke 12:16 -21 NKJV)

16 Then He spoke a parable to them, saying:

"The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.

17 "And he thought within himself, saying,

'What shall I do, since I have no room to store my(I) crops?'

18 "So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my(I) barns and build greater,

and there I will store all my(I) crops and my(I) goods.

19 'And I will say to my soul,

"Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry."'

20 "But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you;

then whose will those things be which you have provided?'

21 "So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

The important thing that we need to understand in this verse is,

we need to search the Bible concerning what is meant by the phrase

"to be rich towards God".

Or how do I give to God.

I challenge you to look to the scriptures

given as you go through this study.

After we are born again all

we can give to God is our time  (time in many ways)

our actions,  everything that we do with every part of our being,

and our money (Material gifts God has given us).

As you read this following scripture,

ask yourself these two questions.

Is the reason that I have worked to gain earthly treasure

mainly for the purpose that I may have the opportunity to use

this earthly treasure to gain much heavenly treasure?

Or is the earthly treasure that I have gained mainly

for my own personal use and satisfaction?

(James 4:13 –17 & 5:1 - 6 NKJV)

13 Come now, you who say,

"Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city,

spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit";

14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow.

For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears

for a little time and then vanishes away.

15 Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills,

we shall live and do this or that."

16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.

5:1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl

for your miseries that are coming upon you!

2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.

3 Your gold and silver are corroded,

and their corrosion will be a witness

against you and will eat your flesh like fire.

You have heaped up treasure in the last days.

4 Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields,

which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers

have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

(What does this mean, maybe this Mark 12:31 (NLT)

The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’)

5 You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury;

you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

6 You have condemned, you have murdered the just;

he does not resist you.

(((((((Please consider this. God's Will,

will cost your flesh more than it ever will be willing to pay.

To continue in your will to keep your flesh happy,

will cost you more than you will ever, forever be willing to pay.))))))))

(Mat 22:8 – 14 NKJV)

(8) "Then he said to his servants,

'The wedding is ready,

but those who were invited were not worthy.

 (9) 'Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find,

invite to the wedding.'

 (10) "So those servants went out into the highways and gathered

together all whom they found, both bad and good.

And the wedding hall was filled with guests.

 (11) "But when the king came in to see the guests,

he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment.

 (12) "So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?'

And he was speechless.

(13) "Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot,

take him away, and cast him into outer darkness;

there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

 (14) "For many are called, but few are chosen."

You can have your choice;

you can let your flesh do some weeping and gnashing of teeth

for the very short time while you are here on this earth.

Or you can keep on keeping on doing it your way,

and you yourself will get to do some

weeping and gnashing of teeth for a long, long time.)))))))

What is Gods plan for our daily walk with Him

and the uses of the earthly treasure we gain?

What about our personal wants and our individual financial freedom

that we here so much about?

God’s Plan for our personal wants and our Financial Freedom Is Simple.

Jesus is coming for a church without spot or wrinkle.

The washing and ironing needed to achieve God’s plan for our daily walk

with Christ and our financial freedom is simple. As we work out our salvation

with God and according to the Word, finances only become a problem when

complicated by the wants this world tells us we should have.

In Bible terms these want can be translated to walking in the flesh controlled by

 the lust of the eye,

lust of the flesh,

pride of life, the force of greed

 and wickedness.

Once a Christian can look from the Word's point of view,

through the eyes of Jesus,

it is easy to see that much of the world's wants are found in our hearts

individually and collectively within the body of Christ.

When the works of the flesh are present in our lives as Christians,

we spend our time building our earthly treasure, not heavenly treasure.

God’s Prosperity is based on heavenly treasure

which we gain by seeking Him

and His will for our lives, not stuff for ourselves.

We must take a very close look at Gods Word to decide

the life style that He wants us to live.

We must find, in the Word, What His Focus For Our Live Is.

I can promise you this, His plan for our daily life style,

which is accomplished by the responsibilities and goals

we set for our lives, will be much difference from that of the

lifestyle sought after in the US and the lust for Material things

that drive the lives of the lost souls that surround each of us daily..

(Mat 6:33 NKJV)

  • But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,
  • and all these things shall be added to you.

God’s plan, His direction, His purpose for our lives is so clear.

God knows that if we fill our hearts with His kingdom,

His Word, then He can give us unlimited amounts of worldly

treasures because we will place absolutely no value on

 the things of this world.

We will use only what we need for our daily lives

and use the rest to build our heavenly bank account.

Consider this, we are here to run a hundred yard dash for Christ.

I know that it seems a lot long than that,

but in the face of eternity,

a hundred yards is even stretching it.

 Now consider the race.

(Acts 20:24 NKJV)

(24)"But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself,

so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from

the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

(1 Cor 9:23 – 27 NKJV)

(23) Now this I do for the gospel's sake,

that I may be partaker of it with you.

 (24) Do you not know that those who run in a race all run,

but one receives the prize?

Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

 (25) And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things.

Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown,

but we for an imperishable crown.

 (26) Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty.

Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.

 (27) But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest,

when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

(2 Tim 4:1 – 8 NKJV)

(1) I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ,

who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom:

(2) Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season.

Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

(3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine,

but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears,

 they will heap up for themselves teachers;

(4) and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

 (5) But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions,

do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

(6) For I am already being poured out as a drink offering,

and the time of my departure is at hand.

 (7) I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

(8) Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness,

which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day,

and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Now look at this picture.

We have on the right a 170lb lean,

clean running machine. He trains his body and makes it submit

to what is necessary for it to stay in top condition.

When this lean clean machine is taken to the smorgasbord restaurant to eat,

he will only take in that which is necessary to maintain his excellent condition.

One extra calorie that would cause the gain of one fat cell is not excepted.

Now consider his opponent. Five foot six, two hundred sixty six pounds,

is not comfortable walking from the couch in front of the TV to the refrigerator,

more less running a hundred yard dash. This man has allowed the body

to dictate to him how to live his life.

In the spiritual realm we can say our lean and health individual is seeing

the world through the eyes of Christ.

His focus is on the church and the lost and dying that are in this world,

not the world's stuff. Just as an over weight individual

could not possibly run and win a race against a our

 170lb top shape athletic,

A Christians that is weighted down with the things and cares of this world,

is not running the race for eternity according to God’s Word and His Will.

Our race is not for the things of this world.

If we know, and when we know, that we are not of this world,

then the things of this world lose their grip on our souls.

We will then use only what is need to live a moderate life on this earth

and the rest will go to make deposits into your heavenly account.

(John 18:36 NKJV)

(36) Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world.

If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight,

so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here."

(37) Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?"

Jesus answered, "You say rightly that I am a king.

For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world,

that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

God’s Prosperity Is Based On What We Give, Not Receive.

Prosperity is not something we seek after;

Prosperity is also not about stuff. Prosperity is God’s gift to us,

for seeking after God and his perfect will for our lives.

We seeking the things of God and ministry to others obtain God’s prosperity.

God gives his prosperity to us, as we become an empty vessel,

so that He can use us to be a funnel to give much to others.

God will let "all these things be added to you" when

He knows that you are an empty vessel,

willing to be a funnel, therefore through your giving,

others will be blessed and you may have much treasure in heaven.

A Christian is prosperous when he has much heavenly treasure,

not earthly treasures. A distinct line separates what the world calls

prosperity and what God calls prosperity. The world’s prosperity is

centered on possession and control of stuff. God’s prosperity is based

on our heavenly bank account. According to The Word,

deposits into this account are made by giving, for the spread of the gospel,

and by giving away what He has given to us, giving ourselves,

time and possessions to others.

Only through The Word and at the altar will a man find the truth

about his spiritual condition and how our daily

walk with Christ is as seen by the eyes of God.

Because of The lifestyle sought after in the US

and the influences this lifestyle has had on many US Christians,

the depths of the following scriptures go Way, Way,

Way Beyond the life style of many Christians in this country.

(Mark 8:34 – 35 NKJV)

(34)When He had called the people to Himself,

with His disciples also, He said to them,

"Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself,

and take up his cross, and follow Me.

 (35) "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it,

but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it.

 (36) "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world,

and loses his own soul?

The natural man cannot understand,

cannot comprehend,

the spiritual truth that is revealed in the previous scripture.

 Jesus said in Mark 10:24,

that it is only possible for a man to understand the Biblical principles

that guide the lifestyle and the prosperity we should seek,

when they are revealed to him by revelation from God.

Will you take the time,

just for a moment to lay down

all the worldly things that you possess,

open your heart and say to God.

God, I want to know the simple truth of your

Word concerning worldly possessions and heavenly treasure.
