Chapter 16

Isaiah 40:31 New Living Translation (NLT)

31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.

The Life Of One Who Trust In The Lord

God Has Made It So Clear About His Expectations He Has For His Children.

His Expectations Are Great, and They are A Very Very Big Deal To Him.

There Are So Many Scriptures That Make It Very Clear What He Expects From His Family, The Body Of Christ, His Army On This Earth.

Matthew 25:14-30New Living Translation (NLT)

Parable of the Three Servants

14 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. 15 He gave five bags of silver[a] to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip.

16 “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. 17 The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. 18 But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.

19 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’

21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together![b]

22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’

23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’

26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, 27 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’

28 “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. 30 Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Colossians 3 New Living Translation (NLT)

Living the New Life

3 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your[a] life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

Colossians 3 New King James Version (NKJV)

Not Carnality but Christ

3 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Our Focus Is Here

1 Corinthians 2:9

That is what the Scriptures mean when they say,

No eye has seen,

no ear has heard,

and no mind has imagined

what God has prepared for those who love him.”

2 Corinthians 6:17 New Living Translation (NLT)

17 Therefore, come out from among unbelievers,
and separate yourselves from them,      says the Lord.
Don’t touch their filthy things,     and I will welcome you.[a]

The Above Scripture Explained

1 John 2:15-17 New Living Translation (NLT)

Do Not Love This World

15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you,

for when you love the world,

you do not have the love of the Father in you.

16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure,

a craving for everything we see,

and pride in our achievements and possessions.

These are not from the Father,

but are from this world. 17

And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave.

But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

Hebrews 13:8-16 New Living Translation (NLT)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them.

10 We have an altar from which the priests in the Tabernacle[a] have no right to eat. 11 Under the old system, the high priest brought the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, and the bodies of the animals were burned outside the camp. 12 So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood. 13 So let us go out to him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace he bore. 14 For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.

15 Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. 16 And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.

Making The Change

If you are ready to be free from the things of this earth and set your heart, soul, mind and strength on things above,

God's freedom is waiting for you.

God will never tell us to do anything without making it very clear how we can accomplish what He has asked of us.

God has ask me to deny myself and take up my cross and follow Jesus. If I am going to be able do this I need to do it His way.

A good place to start is the first and second of all commandments

Always Notice Gods Repetitions

Mark 12:29-31 New Living Translation (NLT)

29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel!

The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30

And you must love the Lord your God with

all your heart,

all your soul,

all your mind,

and all your strength.’

[a] 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] No other commandment is greater than these.”

(Luke 10:25 – 28 NKJV)

(25) And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" (26) He said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?" (27) So he answered and said, " 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and 'your neighbor as yourself.'" (28) And He said to him, "You have answered rightly; do this and you will live."

 Matthew 22:37

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’

What we are going to be talking about throughout this study is the first of all commandments,

Is how to love the Lord with ALL THE HEART, ALL THE SOUL, ALL THE MIND, AND ALL THE STRENGTH.

Here are the Greek terms used in this study:  We are going to be referring to the original language to help with our understanding of this teaching.

Before we start I want to make a brief statement of the second of all commandments, which is how to love our neighbor as ourselves. Jesus made it very clear as to who our neighbor is, any one we come across that is in need.

(Luke 10:30 - 37 NKJV

30 Then Jesus answered and said: "A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 "Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 "Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 "But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 "So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 "On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.' 36 "So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?" 37 And he said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

First Of All Commandments

AS We Start This Study

I want to show the connection between the

teaching of Focus  Of Life that I do

and this study of

The First and Second

Of All Commandments

It is the two sides of this coin of life

we are spending according to what

God ask of us.

One side is to deny our self and

take up the cross.

The other side is to Love God

with all and love our neighbor

as our self.

Now what we are going to focus on is the first of all commandments. What will be done with this study is to show that to love the Lord our God with our complete being is the same as to deny ourselves and taking up our cross and follow Jesus. We will make it clear how to accomplish loving God with our complete being. Then we will understand how following Jesus will result in loving our neighbor as our self.

Before we start the study of each individual parts of our Being.  I want to share these scriptures of how the heart, soul, and mind effect each other. The soul is not mentioned in these scripture. How it plays its part in our daily lives will be explained in the study of the soul.

The Tie Between The Heart and Mind.

The spirit of man controls the mind, the mind feeds the spirit.

Choices are made through the power of the soul.

All three are effected by the intake of the Word, Who is Jesus, and the flow of the Spirit of God in to our lives as He chooses to give it.

John 14:27

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Philippians 4:7

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Please notice the statement, “as you live in Christ Jesus”. Jesus Christ is The Word Of God. God wants us to live in the Word continually. Not a few chosen scriptures, but and ongoing hearing of the New Testament.

When The Heart and The Mind are united

Acts 4:32

[ The Believers Share Their Possessions ] All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had.

When The Heart and The Mind are not united

Titus 1:15

Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted.

God through the Holy Spirit Wants To Be Your Teacher

Hebrews 8:10

But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

Hebrews 10:16

“This is the new covenant I will make with my people on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”
